MBS Values Growth: Better than Yesterday

“Be better today than you were yesterday and be better tomorrow than you were today.”

These words, spoken by Lorenzo Snow over 100 years ago, come to my mind as I reflect on growth – one of our four company values.

We believe growth is not about being perfect, and it’s not about a lack of contentment. Rather, it’s about continually striving to be better versions of ourselves – day by day and year by year.

At MBS, growth is encouraged for companies and individuals alike. We believe that this can take many different forms.

Client Growth

We love to work with clients who value growth as much as we do.

Most companies aim for revenue growth. Therefore, we encourage business owners to closely examine their financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows) to look for areas of opportunity for improvement. This may look like:

  • Running analyses to see which levers to pull
  • Establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Creating a budget to stay on track going forward

Growth for a business might also look like streamlining and becoming more efficient, expanding market reach, or diversifying product offerings.

We’ve helped many clients increase their profitability in all of these ways. Check out this client success story!

Employee Growth

We encourage our employees to pursue both personal and professional growth. This might mean learning new skills or new hobbies, or improving on the ones we already have.

One of our team members successfully earned her Bachelor’s degree this year. Megan is learning how to grow our company through the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Accelerator program. We have team members enhancing their skills and expertise with QuickBooks classes and certification, as well as Human Resource classes and training. At our weekly meeting, we each answer the question “What have you learned this week?” to keep us accountable to our value of growth.

We continue to stay engaged in our industry, the industries of our clients, and the world we live in, as detailed in this post.

Looking Back and Looking Ahead

The concept of being “better today than you were yesterday and being better tomorrow than you were today” is old, but timeless. Growth is a continuous journey. It’s not always about making giant leaps, but about continually taking small steps in the right direction. Sometimes, growth means reflecting on and learning from our mistakes, as well as accepting challenges and turning them into opportunities.

As the year rapidly comes to a close, we reflect back on all that has transpired. We encountered moments where we triumphed and moments where we stumbled, times when we faced unexpected challenges and times when we found unexpected opportunities.

As we anticipate moving into the new year, we hope to further embrace the spirit of growth. We will strive to look for new opportunities to learn, adapt, and improve in both our personal and professional lives. We’ll set goals, both big and small, and work towards achieving them. We will strive to “be better today than we were yesterday and better tomorrow than we were today.”
